14.12.2012 15:38 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine has undertaken a commitment to reduce till 2020 greenhouse gas emissions by 24% compared with 1990, acting ecology and natural resources minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavitsky told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
«Ukraine undertook this commitment at the 18th UN Conference on Climate Change at the 8th meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. Ukraine has managed to get the best rate for reducing greenhouse gas emissions among all the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol,» Stavitsky said.
He also noted that there is a risk that the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol till 2020 may be vetoed by Russia or other countries.
«The situation with the sale of quotas on greenhouse gas emissions is uncertain. World demand has decreased, and the main buyer of Ukraine, Japan, does not intend to buy quotas at all,» he said, assuring that Ukraine will sign all documents for the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol till 2015.
