Establishing a free trade area between Ukraine and EU, as well as establishing our effective interaction with the Customs Union will contribute to further strengthening of economic cooperation in Eurasia, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych told the Polish edition Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
«The priority for Ukraine today is the signing of the Association Agreement and Free Trade Area Agreement with the European Union,» the head of state said. He also noted that Ukraines economic cooperation with the Customs Union and EurAsEC will develop in the forms that do not contradict our European choice. According to Yanukovych, the authorities want to develop a mutually acceptable model of cooperation with the Customs Union, but considering the rules and requirements of the World Trade Organization. «I hope that together we will find the optimal model for interaction with the Customs and the Eurasian unions, which will take into account the national interests of both our country and members of these associations,» he underscored. Yanukovych recalled that Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are the largest partners of Ukraine in the framework of the CIS, whose trade turnover with our state accounts for 40% of the total national foreign trade. «Therefore, we can not ignore the integration processes, which are now taking place among Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan,» he said. Yanukovych added that Ukraine is closely monitoring the activities and development of the Customs Union, as well as the creation of the Common Economic Space and the Eurasian Union.
