Association deal may be signed without additional conditions
03.04.2012 11:27 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU is quite important and beneficial for both parties to be signed without additional conditions, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko told the Spanish edition El Pais in an interview.
«What kind of a country we will be if we agree to do everything that someone says from the outside. We believe the Association Agreement with the EU is quite important and beneficial for both parties to be signed it without conditions,» Hryshchenko emphasized. The diplomat also noted that Ukraine faces double standards. He recollected that the previous Prime Minister of Iceland is currently under investigation on charges of ineffective management of the country during the financial crisis, «and no one in the EU says nothing on this issue». «Yulia Tymoshenko was convicted for official abuse when signing the gas contracts with Russia, which cost Ukraine billions of losses, and European politicians are disturbed about it,» Hryshchenko said. At the same time, the minister admitted that the Ukrainian judicial system and criminal procedure to a large extent do not comply with the highest European standards and are now undergoing a process of reform, «but in any case laws and court decisions must be respected and performed». Hryshchenko also said that Tymoshenko has the right to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, whose decision will be accepted by Ukraine in accordance with its international obligations.
