Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts bread stable prices
05.06.2007 12:33 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy
forecasts next few months country bread prices will remain stable due to sufficient internal grains reserves, said First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Borys Supikhanov while speaking in Business World program (First National TV channel).
«I think it is now quite justified to affirm that country bread prices won’t boost within
next few months,» said Supikhanov.
Deputy Minister called Ukrainian 2006 crop grains transitional reserves «optimistic».
However, he gave no details as for reserves exact volume.
Supikhanov admitted bread prices stability would greatly depend on local authorities
further actions (in part., regional grains reserves forming). He also said bakeries should already now start working out schemes of future grains shipments for those regions from which they plan to receive grains.
Deputy Minister reminded Agrarian Fund is presently performing rye/food wheat sales in order to retain bread prices stability.
As to Agro Perspective earlier report, presently ≈ 10 mn of country sown areas are suffering from drought; sown crops have been destroyed at 0.5 mn ha.
As to Agro Perspective, Ministry of Agrarian Policy had earlier forecasted this year grains crop would reach 38 mn MT. However, this forecast is to be revised due to hard drought.
Experts estimate Ukrainian internal market food grain annual requirement as much as 7 mn MT.
