Melnyk forecasts 2006/07 grain export will be down against 2005/06

Yuriy Melnyk, Minister of Agrarian Policy, reported within direct phone line conference he thinks 2006/07 MY Ukrainian grain export (2006 crop) will be down as of 2005/06 MY. However, Melnyk didn’t precise as for how much grain export may decline. Minister made it known lower grains export (in part. wheat) will be motivated by this year grains corn-bugs damage high percentage. He admitted this year grains crop is possible to be down against 2005. Melnyk said in 2006/07 companies would be able to raise barley export due to barley crop growth accompanied with corresponding export offer rise. It is to be reminded, Oleksandr Baranivskiy, previous Minister of Agrarian Policy, had forecasted 2006/07 MY grains export would reach 13 mn MT. As earlier reported, 2005/06 MY (Jul05/Jun06) grains export had boosted to 13.3 mn MT, up 2.2 mn MT (+ 20%) against 2004/05 MY; in 2005/06 MY companies were bringing out mainly wheat, feed barley and maize (as in 2004/05 MY). 2004/05 MY (Jul/04-Jun/05) grains export had boomed to 11.075 mn MT, up 8.31 mn MT (+ 300%) against 2003/04 MY.
