Ministry of Agrarian Policy expects 2006 maize crop to be down against forecasted due to bad weather

Ministry of Agrarian Policy considers this year maize production will be down against earlier forecasted owing to unfavorable weather conditions, reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk within direct phone line conference. It is to be reminded, this Aug Ministry of Agrarian Policy had declared maize crop would reach 66.5 mn MT. Thus, country total grains crop will also be down against 41 mn MT (earlier forecasted by Ministry). Melnyk didn’t give any details as for forecasted 2006 total grains production in terms of weight after additional processing. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, as of Aug 30, agricultural companies had harvested 29.782 mn MT grain at 11,963.000 ha (82% total planned). 2005 grain crop totaled 38.015 mn MT (incl. maize for grain 7,166.600 MT).
