Plastic passports already issued in Ukraine

As of today, the Ukrainian 16-year-old citizens may receive the new kind passports the plastic ID cards, NRCU says referring to the Ukrainian State Migration Service report.
As to the report, all other Ukrainian citizens who want to change their paper passports for the ID cards, should wait till the proper bill is passed in the Parliament.
Reportedly, the ID cards will be issued to 16-year-old citizens free of charge. However, the cards will be issued only as soon as the local State Migration Service departments are provided with the necessary equipment.
It is to be admitted, an ID card contains an electronic contactless chip with the recorded personal and biometric data of a holder, including the place of residence and marital status. Adding a digital signature, ID code and other information is technically possible but requires legislative regulation.
It is to be mentioned, changing of the old kind paper passports for the new kind plastic ones won’t be obligatory for the Ukrainian citizens within the next 5 years (determined as a transitional period).
