UN: Changes in energy use are driving development

As of today, while speaking at the UN headquarters at a ministerial-level meeting on global energy issues, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said presently changes in the way people around the world use energy are driving development, UN Radio reports.
«Around the world, we see profound changes in how energy is supplied and used. These changes drive development, improve individual lives and limit the impact on our climate and environment. But we have to manage these changes in a way which ensures that they benefit all people. For that, we need an effective framework which balances cooperation and competition and aims to leave no on behind,» Mr. Eliasson admitted.
It is to be reminded, earlier the UN had launched Sustainable Energy for All initiative targeted at transforming and properly managing of the worlds energy systems.
As of now, over 80 developing countries have already joined the initiative.
