President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has appointed Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko to the post of Kyiv CSA Head, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
The respective decree has been signed by the President today.
«I have made a decision to appoint you to the post of Kyiv CSA Head. I am signing a decree that gives you these powers,» Petro Poroshenko said at the beginning of the meeting with Vitali Klitschko.
Outlining the top-priority tasks of Kyiv government, the President underlined the necessity of restoring the capital. «Kyiv must regain the status of the best European capital,» he said.
Another important task, President admits, is fight against corruption. The Head of State reminded that soon, local government will receive new expanded powers after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution that will introduce the decentralization of power. He called these amendments an important historical decision because decentralization is one of the important items of the President’s peace plan.
In this context, Petro Poroshenko noted that the cancellation of the mandate of the Federation Council to use the Armed Forces of Russia on Ukrainian soil is an aftermath of the implementation of the President’s peace plan.
The Head of State wished Vitali Klitschko fruitful and efficient work for the benefit of Kyiv residents and Ukraine.
Kyiv Mayor and Kyiv CSA Head Vitali Klitschko considers his appointment a «return of local government to Kyiv». «Kyiv residents expect that Kyiv Mayor will have powers to fulfill their aspirations: to influence the administration, the budget, and the long-awaited changes,» he said.
