MFA informs of results of open UN Security Council's debate on situation in Ukraine

On May 28, an open debate of the United Nation’s Security Council on Ukraine took place, which was summoned on the initiative of the Great Britain targeting to discuss the situation within the country in the context of results of early presidential elections on May 25, 2014, Government Portal reports.
The meeting started with a briefing of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Jeffrey Feltman. He informed the UN Security Council’s members on the state of matters in Ukraine, especially in parts of the east. J. Feltman informed Ban Ki-Moon congratulated Petro Poroshenko on «having received a strong mandate from the people».
In the debate were participating all the UN Security Council delegations and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations.
The overwhelming majority of UN Security Council condemned the actions of pro-Russian separatists directed to disruption of the elections in Donetsk and Luhansk and reaffirmed inherent right of the Government of Ukraine to anti-terrorist operation. The UN SC delegations called on the Russian Federation to take measures to prevent trespassing by armored militants and armor of the territory of Ukraine from the Russian side, and simultaneously, welcomed recent statements aired by the leaders of the Russian Federation and containing respect for the choice of Ukrainian people made on May, 2014.
