The EU is interested in cooperation with Ukraine in the field of fisheries

This topic has been discussed during todays meeting of the Prime Minister with the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki, Mykola Azarov Official Website reports.
«I look forward to profound cooperation. We can not do anything in the Black Sea region without your country. We have some good ideas in the field of fisheries, tourism, transport, energy, extraction of minerals and seabed exploration, but we need the participation of Ukraine», Maria Damanaki stressed.
European Commissioner noted in the short term the European Commission intends to develop a good scientific data base of resources available in the Black Sea.
Mykola Azarov, in turn, assured that Ukraine was also interested in collaborative scientific research and implementation of the projects. «I will instruct the relevant authorities to seriously react to this and to prepare the necessary proposals,» Head of the Government said.
The parties discussed a range of issues on cooperation in fisheries: the conservation of fish stocks, cleaning up the sea, the development of infrastructure and the like. «This cooperation is especially significant now, when we have started to develop the Black Sea shelf,» Prime Minister said.
He also noted that Ukraine closely followed the EU work regarding the fight against illegal fishing. Prime Minister stressed that our Government adheres to international principles of economic activities related to the use of marine resources, «So for us it is important to decide on the notification of the Certificate by the European Union, which is issued by the authorized bodies of Ukraine for the implementation of fishing activities. Its not just about exporting goods of the Ukrainian origin to the EU from the customs territory. This applies, above all, to the products fished by vessels flying the flag of Ukraine».
