Cuba to resume sugar output
28.12.2018 22:08 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to Alejandro Hill Fernandez, Cuban Minister of Economics and Planning, Cuba will significantly boost its raw sugar output within this MY (which is in full swim now) after Cuban economy having suffered considerable damage within 2017/18 MY due to adverse weather, Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the Reuters report.
However, Fernandez admits within this MY Cuba won’t be able to reach the previous sugar output.
As to him, within this MY Cuba is going to produce 1.5 million tons raw sugar; the country is going to export 920,000 tons sugar (up almost 50% against 2017/18 MY).
Fernandez reminded that within 2017/18 MY the Cuba sugar plants had lowered their sugar output by 43.7% due to the sugar cane crop significant decline (caused by the extremely adverse weather conditions).
