<title>Europe&#8216;s deadly cold snap should ease from next week, UN agency says</title>
		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66492</link>
<description>The current cold spell that has paralyzed much of Europe and reportedly killed almost 300 people over the past week should start to ease slowly from next week, a senior official at the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said yesterday.
Omar Baddour, the chief of global climate monitoring at WMO, told reporters in Geneva that the current &quot;negative Arctic Oscillation&quot; - a weather phenomenon which leads to cold conditions in Europe and relatively warmer conditions in the Arctic - should shift into a more neutral pattern within the next two to three weeks.
&quot; So, based on this indicator, we might expect - it&#8216;s not a deterministic forecast - we might expect the changing of the current cold wave might start easing slowly from next week to the end of the month,&quot; he said.
Extremely low temperatures have been recorded over much of Europe in the past week, with Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Belarus and Latvia among the countries most affected. Substantial snowfalls have also been reported in numerous countries, including as far south as Algeria and Italy.
In an update issued yesterday, WMO said the low temperatures have by and large not set records.
&quot; The long duration of the cold period, its relatively late onset and the extent of the cold area are noteworthy but not exceptional,&quot; the agency stated.
WMO said a very stable high pressure system originating in Siberia in eastern Russia in mid-January had allowed a continuous flow of cold air to persist and also prevented milder temperatures and maritime storms from moving from the Atlantic Ocean eastwards into Europe.

<title>Ukraine does not want Russia to examine Ukrainian production under no supervision</title>
		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66462</link>
<description>Agrarian Ministry of Ukraine is searching for common approaches with Russia to control Ukrainian production, deputy agrarian minister Oleksandr Sen&#8216; said.
&quot; We are looking for common approaches, so that Russia does not hold examinations in a one-way fashion,&quot; he said Tuesday commenting on the ban of Ukrainian cheese products by Russia.
According to the official, the sides must determine methods of selection of goods and examination of quality.
&quot;First we need to determine the methods of selection and to do it in presence of Ukrainian officials or even better in presence of Ukrainian producers. Secondly, we need common methods of examination, as different methods can give different results,&quot; the deputy minister believes.
Speaking about the Russian ban on import of Ukrainian cheese, Sen&#8216; said &quot;we are working on this issue.&quot;

		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66461</link>

<title>Prime Minister entrusted to ensure the cheapening of spring sowing</title>
		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66463</link>
<description>Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov entrusted Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Boyko together with Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk to develop mechanisms of reducing the cost of fuel and lubricants for the spring field work.
Due to extreme drought in autumn 2011 year and difficult weather conditions of this winter in Ukraine agrarians will have to reseed more than 2 million hectares of winter crops, which is more than one fifth of the area under winter grain.
Additional pressure on the Ukrainian grain producers will be made by the fact that in Russia the price of diesel fuel for spring field work has been reduced by 30%.
Because of these unfavourable factors, the ministers have been entrusted to develop and submit to the Government a draft regulation which is to establish a regime of the most favored economic activity for Ukrainian farmers so that their ready products should remain competitive.

<description>Text of the agreement on free trade area with CIS will be delivered to the parliament this week, first vice PM Andriy Klyuyev said at a meeting of the parliament&#8216;s conciliatory board on Monday.

<title>World Freerice Week is launched on Monday</title>
		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66454</link>
<description>Players of the online game known as Freerice.com are being urged to recruit six friends to join the online fight against hunger this week.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has launching its World Freerice Week which starts on Monday under the theme &quot;6 Degrees of Freerice&quot;.
It is based on the theory of &quot;Six Degrees of Separation&quot; which says that every person in the world is connected to every other person in the world through, at most, six other people.
The UN food agency says that from Monday to Saturday players of the trivia games at Freerice.com can win prizes and have fun while feeding the hungry.
WFP says that over one million registered players of Freerice have together donated nearly 100 billion grains of rice to feed almost five million people since the game&#8216;s launch in 2007.

<title>Cold snap grips several countries in Europe</title>
		<link>http://www.agroperspectiva.com/en/news/66453</link>
<description>Several European countries including Sweden, Poland and Germany have recorded their coldest night this year, as a severe winter sweeps across the continent.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says a cold snap has gripped nearly all of Europe.
The drop in temperatures began mid-January over Western Russia and Siberia.

&quot; The situation is caused by a Siberian high pressure system, we call it a blocking system, it&#8216;s preventing milder weather coming in from the West. Effectively we are getting Siberian temperatures for the moment. In the last couple of days what we saw was the cold air coming in from the North that was fed with very strong moisture flux from the Central Mediterranean sea and this caused a lot of snow over parts of South-eastern Europe,&quot; the WMO spokesperson Clare Nullis admits.
