National Bank of Ukraine relies on agricultural sector

According to Valeriy Lytvytsky, the head of the group of advisers to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) governor, the growth of the agricultural sector in Ukraine opens up prospects for GDP growth in November and December 2011.
He said that earlier, the maximum grain harvest was reported in 1998 (53.3 million tons), and this year saw a new record - 54.2 million tons. «There is a probability that the growth of the agricultural sector may give an additional impetus to GDP dynamics,» Lytvytsky said. He also said that it shows the importance of agriculture to the economy of Ukraine. The expert said that while improving the level of management in the agricultural sector, its modernization it could «improve the balance of payments, accelerate GDP growth, reduce inflationary pressures, and contribute to the stability of the exchange rate.»
