Grain import down 8.2% to 152,000 tons in 2006/07 MY

In 2006/07 MY import of grain crops fell by 8.2% or 13,800 tons to 152,200 tons against 2005/06 MY, reports Agrarica company referring to the estimated data on export import of products.
Rice is traditionally the most popular crop for export.
All in all companies have imported 117,355 tons of rice against 120,000 tons in 2005/06 MY.
Enterprises have also imported barley 7,400 tons, maize 20,500 tons, wheat 1,031 tons.
Companies purchase mostly sowing materials.
As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, in 2005/06 MY (July 2005-June 2006) grain import comprised 165,800 tons.
Experts forecast growth of grain import in 2007/08 MY.
