Yanukovych directs finance ministry to ensure timely grain purchases

Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych has tasked the Finance Ministry to allocate funds for purchase of grain into the stat’s reserve, press service of the Cabinet reports.
«Head of the government direct the Finance Ministry to ensure timely funding of state’s purchases,» reads the statement of the press service.
Recall, in early June the Cabinet expected that state’s and regional operators will buy 3.5 million tons of grain for the state’s and regional resources and create more than six month grain reserve to saturate the domestic market.
Presently, state’s operators have bought some amounts of grain. According to Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Slauta, regions have bout 850,000 tons of grain of directed 1.8 million tons. The agrarian fund has acquired 60,000 tons of grain, states deputy agrarian minister Yurii Luzan. Officials told that the state’s reserve carries out active purchases, but did not disclose volumes of the bought grain.
There is a likelihood that the state’s operators will fail to ensure necessary grain reserve by October, which inevitably entails prolongation of quotas for export of grain by late 2007.
As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, officials intend to create 45 months reserve of foodstuffs to secure stable situation in the grain and bread market.
Earlier, Slauta told that in general, grain purchase needs UAH 1.62 billion and that state’s operators have initial finances.
Specialists estimate capacity of the domestic internal market at 7 million tons annually.
