Kyiv region farmers to sow 280,000 ha of winter crops

The Kyiv region plans to sow 280,000 ha under winter crops, according to report of the first deputy chair of the chief agrarian department of the Kyiv regional state administration Petro Pylypenko.
He noted that 20,000 ha is planned to be sown under winter rye, 3,000 ha under winter barley, 41,000 ha under winter rape and the rest of areas under wheat.
Pylypenko told that rape crops will be the same as last year, whereas areas under oil crops will be expanded in the Kyiv region. Soy bean is expected to cover 50,000 ha against 23,000 ha in 2006.
