Over US$150 million pledged for UN Peacebuilding Fund
23.09.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, within a pledging conference on the margins of the UN General Assembly,
over US$150 million has been pledged to the UN Peacebuilding Fund (which supports peace efforts in post-conflict countries), UN Radio reports.
As to the report, the money covers the period from 20172019 and will go towards projects in more than 20 countries.
Reportedly, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the funding will help to redress the imbalance between what the world spends on war and what it devotes to preventing conflict.
It is to be admitted, the amount pledged falls short of the goal to achieve US$100 million a year.
However, the UN says it will allow the Peacebuilding Fund to continue its work in the short term.
