Ban urges wealthy nations urged to deliver on US$100 milliard climate pledge
06.09.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, while speaking within a summit of the G20 group of countries in Hangzou, China, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the leaders of major world economies to «live up to their commitments» on climate finance, including a promise to provide US$100 milliard for climate-related projects, UN Radio reports.
As to Ban, the G20 support to the Paris Agreement on climate finance, adopted last December in France, is crucial.
As to him, the key targets of the agreement are to keep global temperature rises below 2 degrees Celsius and to provide US$100 milliard a year in climate finance for developing countries by 2020.
Ban noted that contributing to climate finance is an «important step» to supporting developing countries efforts to implement the climate accord.
It is to be reminded, on last week Sat, both China and the United States announced their ratification of the international agreement, taking it a step closer to becoming a reality.
It is to be admitted, the two countries are responsible together for 40% of the world emissions.
