A record number of people have crossed the Mediterranean Sea into Europe since the start of 2015, UN Radio says referring to the UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) report issued on Wed.
As to the report, conflicts were the main push factor.
Reportedly, within 2015 Jan-Jun, 137,000 refugees and migrants made the journey (over 80% up against last year similar).
As to the report, within this year deaths at sea also reached unprecedented levels with more than 1,300 refugees and migrants drowned or missing in this year Apr.
Also, the UN report shows that the eastern Mediterranean route from Turkey into Greece now delivers more people than the central Mediterranean route, from north Africa to Italy.
