12.01.2015 09:36 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ebola vaccine testing is a matter of weeks away in the three countries worst affected by the killer virus, UN Radio says referring to the WHO (World Health Organization) Fri report.
The report follows a World Health Organization meeting in Geneva where participants said they wanted to get the new drugs into the field «as quickly as possible».
«We haven’t yet got an effective vaccine at the moment … what we’re driving for with real urgency while this epidemic is ongoing to take this opportunity to develop quickly but with quality a vaccine that will be effective in the current situation, recognizing that if we had all the time in the world we might do more optimizing of all sorts of things before going into the clinical field, we’re not at that point, we are saying what we have seen is very promising let’s get them into the field as quickly as possible,» WHO’s Professor Helen Rees said.
As to the report, Liberia is to trial two vaccines by the end of the month; besides, testing could also start in Sierra Leone and Guinea in early February.
Experts admit it could take up to six months to see if the vaccines are working after testing on thousands of people.
