India hailed for solar and wind power initiative

While speaking at the «Vibrant Gujarat» Summit in Ahmedabad in Gujarat State (western India) within the last week, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hailed the India’s efforts to accelerate the development of its solar and wind power, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, «Vibrant Gujarat» is a bi-annual event that brings together political, business leaders, investors, and corporations.
Mr. Ban also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to build «smart cities» that are energy efficient and high-tech.
Besides, Mr. Ban urged India to take the lead in December in Paris where a universal climate change agreement is expected to be adopted.
It is to be admitted, Gujarat is also the birthplace of independence leader and father of the non-violent mass protests, Mahatma Ghandi.
As to the report, ahead of the Summit, Mr. Ban had visited a religious retreat or Asharam founded by Gandhi named after the Sabarmati River, one of the biggest in the State.
Besides, he had also visited a solar power plant built on the Narmada rival canal in the town of Vadodara before heading to the capital city New Dehli.
