Ukraine and Belarus can develop a great potential in their bilateral cooperation. It was stated by Petro Poroshenko at the yesterday meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Kyiv, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«We have a broad agenda - economic cooperation, coordination of actions in the international organizations, financial and security cooperation,» the Head of State said.
As to him, the parties have an opportunity to discuss the potential of bilateral cooperation today.
«I’d like to express gratitude to you for the opportunity to hold dialogue in the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group. Thank you for the firm position of Belarus regarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, as well as the so-called elections in the Donbas,» Poroshenko said.
He admitted the global diplomacy had recognized the Minsk format of negotiation. «The entire world says that the Minsk memorandum and the Minsk protocol are the basis of the peaceful process in Ukraine. They are recognized by the UN, the EU and the G20. In fact, they are the only model for de-escalation of the situation in the Donbas,» Poroshenko stressed.
The Head of State expressed hope that the Minsk meetings would be restored.
In turn, the Belarusian President mentioned the growth of trade turnover with Ukraine despite the difficult situation in the Donbas. «Trade turnover with Ukraine has not been decreased. In fact, it has raised. Our contracts with Ukraine are fully paid. It is a unique situation today,» Lukashenko said.
Also, he emphasized that Belarus had always supported peace in Ukraine and would be willing to further promote peaceful negotiations in Minsk. «I sincerely wish peace and welfare to Ukraine,» Belarusian President said.
