Semerak: Reverse supply allowed Ukraine save almost half a billion dollars
03.10.2014 11:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Reverse gas, purchased in the European market for Ukraine, has cost about US$500 million cheaper than gas, which we would have bought in Russia, Government Portal says referring to the Ukrainian Cabinet Minister Ostap Semerak report made on air on the TV Channel 24.
As to the Minister, the Ukrainian Government realize well that Russia is going to turn off gas for Ukraine, what will result in Ukraine lacking the gas to provide energy system working at the level it had been working
a year ago. «Therefore, the Government has been carrying out a planned preparation for the winter. First of all, we’ve signed contracts on the reverse supply of natural gas,» the official noted.
«If you compare the gas price Ukraine pays under the reverse contracts on the EU market with the price, which had offered the Russian Federation, you conclude that gas, purchased on the European market, is for Ukraine about US$500 million less the same gas bought in Russia,» Semerak emphasized.
And this is even despite the fact that gas, which Ukraine bought, is reverse one, it was transited through Ukraine to Europe and then came back, the Minister added.
«Actually, this means that the price offered by the RF to Ukraine has nothing in common with the market one,» Semerak underlined.
