Ukraine has made major steps to increase cooperation with the European Union
25.02.2013 09:20 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The Government of Ukraine has adopted three important decisions for signing the Association Agreement with the EU. They concern the improvement of electoral legislation, work on the liberalization of the visa regime as well as improving the investment climate and business climate, Mykola Azarov Official Website reports.
Following the recommendations of the OSCE concerning parliamentary elections in 2012, an action plan to improve the electoral legislation has been developed. This document shall provide a free activity of the mass media during elections.
Another step is to continue the implementation of the action plan on the liberalization of visa regime for Ukraine by the EU. It should be noted that the European Parliamentarians have supported the amendments to the agreement. The changes are intended to facilitate the issuance of short-term visas, to simplify requirements to documentation for broader categories of applicants, including representatives of civil society organizations, journalists, persons participating in international exhibitions, conferences and seminars. Also cancellation of the visa fee in the amount of EUR 70 for specified categories of persons has been provided.
In addition, the systematic work to improve the investment climate and business climate in Ukraine continues, which is the third step towards the association with the EU. The Government is currently implementing an action plan to promote the activities of foreign investors. These issues will be discussed by the parties in an informal dialogue on the business climate issues. A corresponding memorandum is to be signed at the summit «Ukraine EU».
