Prices For 3rd Quality Wheat Stabilize At Level Of UAH 760 Per Ton
07.04.2003 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) - Prices for wheat of the 3rd quality, after having been increased in January to March by 46%, or by UAH 200.00-240.00 per a ton, stabilized in early April at the level of UAH 760/ton. Participants of the grain market and representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers disclosed this to Ukrainian News. “They are stabilizing. Wheat – 760 (UAH/ton),” remarked Deputy Premier Ivan Kyrylenko. In the opinion of participants of the market, prices stabilized thanks to the activation of grain sale by farmers and stepping up of import from Russia and Kazakhstan. Market participants note that supply on the grain market has been increasing in recent days. Market participants note that excitement on the grain market due to shortage of bread-wheat in many regions is receding. “Rumors about impending hunger turned out to be exaggerated,” Svetlana Balandyna, who is a specialist of the company Olimpex, said. In the opinion of market participants, prices in the near term, most likely will stay stable in connection with the activation of sale of what reminds of the 2003-grain harvest by agricultural enterprises with the aim of supporting the spring sowing. Based upon the information of the government, wheat stocks on the market in early April are being estimated in the volume of 1.7 million tons, including 1.4 million tons of bread-wheat. As Ukrainian News reported previously, prices for wheat of the 3rd quality rose on the domestic market in January by 5.8%, or by UAH 25.00-30.00 per a ton in comparison with December 2002 to UAH 550.00/ton.
