Ban: Rio+20 must result in 'concrete' decisions
07.06.2012 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
With the UN Conference on Sustainable Development known as Rio+20 just 14 days away, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging Member States to show leadership.
He says while negotiations are still underway for an agreement on the final text, he expects it to be finished before the conference from 18 to 20 June.
Mr. Ban says Rio+20 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make real progress towards the sustainable economy of the future and help build a more equitable world.
«We aspire to nothing less than a global movement for generational change. We need world leaders to make the issues on the table at Rio+20 their own personal priority. Nothing else will do. We live in a world of economic uncertainty, growing inequality and environmental decline. That is why I expect concrete outputs from Rio outcomes that will improve the lives of real people around the world,» emphasizes Mr. Ban.
