Putin touts direct foreign investments in Russia
30.11.2011 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Direct foreign investments in Russia in the first ten months of 2011 have reached 36 billion dollars, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. He said that the figure for the same period of last year was 32,2 billion dollars.
Since 2009, more than 100 billion dollars worth of foreign investments have been pumped into the Russian economy. Creating an attractive investment climate is closely watched by Prime Minister Putin, given that in modern world this topic is vital for developing national economies. Right now, half the foreign investments are being injected into developing countries, including Russia. Luring foreign business into the Russian economy’s strategic sectors remains a top priority, Putin pointed out:
«This year, we worked hard to improve the country’s investment legislation,» Putin says, singling out an array of amendments to optimize a process of dealing with foreign investors’ applications. «We also want to simplify and enhance foreign companies’ access to the country’s food, healthcare banking and subsoil sectors. All this will be signed into law to create comfortable conditions for doing business in Russia in 2012,» Putin concludes.
Meanwhile, a commission for foreign investments has dealt with a total of 136 investment bids by foreign companies, with 10 percent of them being rejected. On November 28, commission members discussed 8 such bids, including the one by French IT Company Atos FA which plans to implement a spate of major projects pertaining to information support of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games and the 2018 World Soccer Championship in Russia.
Putin has repeatedly said that in the coming decade, the government plans to increase a rate of innovation production in the structure of the Russian economy by up to 35 percent. In this regard, the Atos Company’s foray into the Russian market can be seen as an example of the attraction of «sophisticated investments», with the help of which this task will be implemented.
