Ukraine to become world's fourth largest apple producer in 2011
23.09.2011 11:27 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukraine will become the world’s fourth largest apple producer and the fifth or sixth largest producer of tomato paste in 2011, Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.
«I am happy to state that at present, this year, we are occupying fourth place in the world in terms of apple production. I am sure that we will soon become the fifth or sixth largest producer of tomato paste in the world. This is important,» he said. Prysiazhniuk said that ensuring food safety was a top priority for the country. He said that Ukraine should minimize its dependence on imports in the agricultural sector. «We are not currently producing sufficient amount of pork, and we’re importing beef. Milk production is at a low level in our country. The state will support these areas next year,» he said.
