22.09.2011 10:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, as part of his working visit to the United States, has attended a high-level meeting to launch the Open Government Partnership initiative, during which he had brief meetings with U. S. President Barack Obama, U. S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
At a meeting with Obama, Yanukovych discussed preparations for a nuclear security summit, which will be held in Seoul in March 2012, the presidential press service reported. At a meeting with Erdogan, Yanukovych discussed his forthcoming visit to Turkey and the state of bilateral relations. In addition, the Ukrainian president also had a brief meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. The Open Government Partnership initiative was put forward by U. S. President Barack Obama during the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2010. Since January 2011, Brazil and the United States have co-chaired a steering committee on the practical implementation of the initiative. The Open Government Partnership is a new multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. The states that expressed their readiness to join the Open Government Partnership should develop national action plans by the summit in Brazil on March 22, 2012.
