Ukraine is possible to face 500,000 MT sugar deficit
19.05.2009 17:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As to National Ukrainian Sugar Producers Association Ukrtsukor forecast, this year Ukraine will experience ≈ 500,000 MT sugar deficit. As to forecast, processing plants number lowering and sugar beet sown areas shortening (from 400,000 ha down to 340,000-350,000 ha) will result in this year Ukrainian sugar output declining to 1.5 mn MT and down (despite country domestic sugar consumption being slightly over 2 mn MT). As to Ukrtsukor Chief Myckola Yarchuk expert estimation, within 2009/10 MY (Jul 01/09-Jul 01/10) Ukrainian domestic market sugar wholesale prices will remain UAH4,000-4,200 per MT (though within early 2009/10 MY prices will be UAH3,100-3,200 per MT). As to Yarchuk, within entire 2009/10 MY sugar retail prices will range within UAH5,000-5,500 per MT. As to State Statistics Committee, within this year Apr sugar prices growth was highest among all other Ukrainian consumer market food articles: up 8% against this year Mar.
