Minister assures Kyiv has enough flour
16.07.2008 17:57 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Reports on Kyiv facing flour shortage are unsubstantiated, declared Minister of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk on press-conference today. As to Minister, now 2 Ukrainian organizations (Agrarian Fund and State Reserve) make grains market interventions in regions. Each region may address Agrarian Fund or State Reserve to receive flour lots enough to be able to sustain reasonable bread sale prices. As to Melnyk, c. Kyiv also could address these organizations, yet it hasn’t done that so far. Minister admitted he had already addressed Kyiv Municipal State Administration as for this problem. “That’s why it is evidently incorrect and not economically wise to speak about bread prices growth necessity and, at same time, refuse from State agent offers. Thus, I believe it is quite unprofessional and unmotivated to speak about current flour shortage despite having taken nothing from Agrarian Fund flour offers for bakeries,” declared Minister. As earlier reported, this year Jul 14 Igor Mazuryka (Khlib Kyieva Board Chairman) declared that since this year Jul 15 Ukrainian capital bakeries belonging to OJSC Khlib Kyieva will suspend shipping bread to companies/private entrepreneurs which sell bread beyond Kyiv as these bakeries flour reserves will suffice just for a week.
