Yanukovych: bread prices will be controlled by UAC/State Prices Inspection

Ukrainian Premier Viktor Yanukovych has made it known country bread prices situation will be controlled by Antimonopoly Committee (UAC) and State Prices Inspection, reported Cabinet press-service referring to Premier Viktor Yanukovych Poltava region working trip declaration. “In case if legislation breach occurs, Public Prosecutor Office is sure to interfere,” says press-service as quoting Yanukovych. As to press-service, Premier has also promised to assure Government support to domestic agricultural producers as grains/grains processed products market has started destabilizing. “We are bound to give aid to suffered companies. That has always been our usual habit, to be observed also in this year,” emphasized Yanukovych. Yanukovych said in order to protect domestic agricultural producers it is necessary to establish grains State purchase prices not under 30% of grains production profitability as well as put 3.5 mn grains into State Reserve for next year storage. As to Agro Perspective earlier report, in meanwhile 800,000 ha agricultural crops are suffering from drought. As to experts forecast, this year grains crop is likely to be down against last year. As to Agro Perspective, authorities haven’t made 2007 grains production forecast so far. 2006 grains crop totaled 34.3 mn MT (2005 – 38.015 mn MT). Ukrainian domestic market grains prices are going up due to grains production possible fall;some regions bread prices are up. Yanukovych is likely to dismiss Minister of Economics Anatoliy Kinakh, Minister of Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk and Vice Premier Viktor Slauta if country bread market situation isn’t stabilized within a week.
