Yanukovych: Ukraine possible to loose ≈ 10 mn MT 2007 crop grains due to drought

Ukraine is likely to loose ≈ 10 mn MT 2007 crop grains due to drought, reported Premier Viktor Yanukovych within Jun 14 Poltava region working trip. “We are currently loosing about 10 mn MT in 10 regions,” said Premier. Government Head made it known half of total drought struck regions grains losses will be compensated at cost of regions characterized with normal grains crop condition. “We are bound to give aid to suffered companies. That has always been our usual habit, to be observed also in this year,” emphasized Yanukovych. However, he said “there will certainly be no tragedy” if State Reserve stocks grains/ drought free regions future crop grains total amount is taken into consideration. Besides, Yanukovych has also said it will be necessary to establish grains purchase prices not under 30% of grains production profitability. “We suggest State should establish purchase prices not below 30% of grains production profitability. It’s a must measure to protect domestic agricultural producers,” stressed Premier. “State is bound to become strong player on grains market, – what is to be taken into account while forming prices policy, including bread prices policy,” admitted Yanukovych. He added grains market situation will be controlled by Antimonopoly Committee/State Prices Inspection. “In case if legislation breach occurs, Public Prosecutor Office is sure to interfere,” stressed Premier. He said 3.5 mn grains are forecasted to be put into State Reserve next year storage.
