Kyrylenko forecasts an insignificant export of grain from Ukraine in 2003/2004 marketing year
22.07.2003 «Agro Perspectiva» (Kyiv) — «The grain export from Ukraine in 2003/2004 *(July June) will be insignificant, since much more profitable are sure to be the trade operations of the grain selling at the internal market», opinions the Vice-Premier Ivan Kyrylenko. He declared that at the Day of the Government, held on in the Parliament on Tuesday. «The export of the new harvest’s grain, especially of the early-ripening grain group, might be restricted with the price conjuncture», told I.Kyrylenko. At the same time, the Vice-Premier admits the possibility of the export activation after the harvesting of the late ripening grain crops, and, in particular, of the maize, due to the now expected maize’s high yield. Speaking about the earlier made forecasts of the volumes of the possible grain import into Ukraine, Ivan Kyrylenko remarked, that presently these forecasts are being revised due to improvement of the general state of the grain crops, owing to the recent rains. According to the evaluations of the internal grain market participants, the grain import into Ukraine this marketing year can reach 2,5 million ton. As reported earlier, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts decrease in the grain harvest this year down to 28,830,8 million ton (the harvest in 2002 being 38,8 million ton). The level of the grain export, according to the preliminary estimations, was 11,5 million ton in 2002/2003 marketing year.
