Ban: Sustainable development requires sustainable peace

"Sustainable development requires sustainable peace" the UN Secretary-General told yesterday the G20 summit of global leaders which is underway in Hangzhou, China, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, the leaders of the world richest nations are discussing wide-ranging economic issues at the annual meeting, while the Chinese Presidency is keen to emphasize sustainable development efforts as a core element of the G20 agenda.
Reportedly, the annual meeting of the G20 group of countries focuses on a comprehensive list of trade and economic development issues.
As to the report, the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon was there to emphasize the importance of sustainable development which forms the centre-piece of the 2030 Agenda that world leaders signed up to last year.
He said development is only possible in times of peace.
«Sustainable development requires sustainable peace: for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to succeed, for a steady economic growth to be achieved, we need peace and development to work hand in hand. The United Nations will continue to support nations in transition, as they strive to ensure peace, development and human rights,» Ban stressed.
It is to be admitted, the final communiqué of the G20 Summit is expected to encourage the speedy entry into force of the Paris Agreement on climate change, a key element of sustainable development.
In meanwhile, as of last week Sat, both China and the United States had announced their ratification of the international agreement, taking it a step closer to becoming a reality.
