UN General Assembly "continues to embody hopes of billions of people"

As of this year Jan 10, the UN General Assembly marked the 70th anniversary of its first-ever meeting, UN Radio reports.
It is to be reminded, 51 nations came together on 10 Jan 1946 at Westminster Central Hall in London, England, at the first official meeting of the General Assembly.
Seventy years later, it is comprised of 193 Member States.
It is to be admitted, as the main deliberative and policymaking organ of the UN, it remains at the centre of the organization.
The current President of the Assembly is Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark.
«Seventy years since its first meeting, this Assembly continues to embody the hopes of billions of people across the world. We, the current custodians of this Assembly, have a duty to both protect, preserve and increase its legitimacy. And we, the peoples, must do all we can to move ever closer to the world of peace, justice, human rights and prosperity envisaged 70 years ago,» Lykketoft said While speaking at the Assemmly meeting on Jan 10.
It is to be reminded, the General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation.
