As of today, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with the Ukrainian Regional State Administrations (RSA) Heads, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, while speaking at the meeting, Poroshenko emphasized the need for holding of the Ukrainian local elections at the same high level as presidential and parliamentary elections.
Thus, having noted that there were several regions that didn’t register the «oppositional» parties, the President emphasized: «The right of political forces to take part in the elections must be reliably protected, inter alia, by the President».
As to the President, it is the first time in the history of Ukraine when such a great number of international observers, inter alia, from PACE, OSCE and European Parliament, takes part in local elections.
As to the report, the President instructed the RSA Heads to establish efficient interaction with international observers and ensure prompt response of the government and the law enforcement bodies to the appeals of observers.
«Each of you will be assessed by voters. I understand your excitement. It is natural. But political competition must be fair and your posts do not provide any benefits,» the President said.
It is to be admitted, at the same time, the Head of State didn’t object to the participation of RSA Heads in local elections. «Moreover, I welcome such initiatives. It is a test for public confidence,» Poroshenko noted.
