Poroshenko: Japan is really close to Ukraine despite the distance

As of last week, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe who was on the first visit to Ukraine in the history Ukrainian-Japanese relations, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, during the negotiations, the President has thanked Japan and G7 for a strong position of support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. The parties have coordinated positions on the eve of the G7 Summit in Germany, where the issue of Ukraine would be among top priorities.
«We appreciate the strong stance of Japan regarding non-recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and readiness to contribute to the consolidation of international efforts to ensure full implementation of the Minsk agreements,» Poroshenko said.
As to the report, following the negotiations, the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe noted that his country upholded sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and considered military resolution of the situation in Donbas inadmissible.
«Japan strongly disapproves military resolution of the situation and respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,» he said.
Reportedly, Shinzo Abe also assured that Japan would do everything possible to peacefully resolve the situation in the East of Ukraine in the course of its presidency in G7 next year.
As to the report, negotiations between delegations in expanded format also took place. Following the negotiations, the parties signed the intergovernmental agreement on he provision of soft loan in the amount of US$1.1 milliard by the Japanese Government for the project on modernization of Bortnychi aeration plant in Kyiv. Also, the parties reached an agreement on the provision of loan by Japan for the development of clean technologies in the sphere of coal energy.
