Ukrainian President: We need unity of EU in energy issue

As of today, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska discussed the development of cooperation in energy sphere for the diversification of energy supply to Ukraine and energy security of the entire European continent, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, while speaking at the joint press conference, the Ukrainian President informed on the signing of the first agreement with Hungarian company regarding interconnector.
Reportedly, Poroshenko emphasized that «the unity of the EU is also necessary in energy issue, for Ukraine is not the only country, which takes the risk from the political component of cooperation with Gazprom».
«We are in the same boat with Slovakia. The only thing we are interested in is to eliminate political component. Gas must be an ordinary commodity,» Poroshenko said adding that we had almost achieved that in winter, were achieving that at the moment and were coordinating our steps with our partners from the EU, particularly with Slovakia.
In his turn, President Kiska confirmed that reverse gas supply would continue functioning.
Besides, the Presidents also discussed the issue of local border traffic, namely the establishment of joint Ukrainian-Slovak border-crossing points that would simplify and accelerate the border-crossing procedure.
Also, the parties agreed to intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission and enhance bilateral cooperation in order to boost trade turnover between Ukraine and Slovakia.
