Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Barack Obama in Washington

As of yesterday, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with President of the United States Barack Obama in Washington, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, in the joint statement following the meeting, Ukrainian President called the support received by Ukraine in the U. S. Congress, the U. S. Department of State and the U. S. President very symbolic.
Also, the Head of State informed that in the course of the given meeting, the parties had discussed a wide range of issues on bilateral cooperation in various spheres. Particularly, the issue of maintaining security, economy, financial cooperation etc.
As to the report, the interlocutors paid special attention to energy cooperation. The Ukrainian President informed that the following week, a solid team of American experts would arrive to Kyiv to continue negotiations on the work in the given sphere. The President emphasized that ensuring energy security was extremely important for our state at the moment.
As to Petro Poroshenko, Barack Obama is well aware of the situation in Ukraine. In this context, he noted the importance of support from the USA in the implementation of international coordination. He informed that today an important meeting of the UN Security Council was held. «Peace is the top priority for me, as President, for all Ukrainians and Americans,» Petro Poroshenko stressed.
«The only way towards de-escalation of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions is the Peace plan that includes ceasefire, liberation of all hostages, withdrawal of Russian troops, establishment of control over the border, prevention of the supply of Russian arms,» the Head of State said.
«We expect continuation of Minsk dialogue in the nearest future. 12 days of the ceasefire regime must transform into a stable peace,» the President said.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Barack Obama for «a fruitful, open and sincere dialogue and for the decisions that will be made today».
In his turn, Barack Obama informed that the United States would enhance assistance to Ukraine in the economic and security sphere. «We will continue mobilizing international efforts to support Ukraine,» the American President noted.
Barack Obama stressed that the U.S. would lead the international community and join the EU in combating aggression. «Unfortunately, there is Russian aggression against Ukraine first in the Crimea and now in the East. But America will consistently support the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and provide assistance in the solution of security issues,» the President of the United States emphasized.
Addressing Petro Poroshenko, Barack Obama noted: «You have a faithful friend not only in the person of me, but also in the person of the American people. America is with the people of Ukraine now».
