Situation in downtown Kyiv calm as of Wednesday noon

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, the situation in the central part of Kyiv was reported to be relatively calm but very tense after violent clashes between protestors and riot police broke out on Tuesday and lasted until Wednesday morning, NRCU says.
According to the latest reports, the clashes have claimed 25 lives, including 9 policemen. One journalist died in hospital of a gunshot wound. Several hundred people have been injured. Forensic experts reported that 19 victims died of gunshot wounds. Police have detained more than 60 protesters. The Defence Ministry reported that on Wednesday morning protesters vacated the building of the Central House of Officers which they had occupied since Tuesday noon. All the stations of the Kyiv subway have been closed since 4 p.m. Tuesday. The authorities explained it by «a threat of terrorist attacks».
