Belarus, RSA to expand interregional ties

Belarus and the Republic of South Africa will ramp up interregional cooperation. The matter was discussed during the trip of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Republic of South Africa Andrei Molchan to Cape Town (Western Cape Province), Belarus Radio reports.
The Belarusian diplomat took part in a solemn ceremony to open a parliamentary session, heard the annual State of the Nation Address of South African President Jacob Zuma and held a number of official meetings. The parties discussed ways to expand the highest-level political contacts between the two countries.
At the meeting with Premier of Western Cape Province Helen Zille and Head of the Department of Agriculture of the province Joyene Isaacs the Belarusian ambassador discussed prospects of interregional cooperation and a possibility of using Belarus’ expertise and knowledge in the province. Joint projects in agriculture were top on the agenda at the meeting with Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of South Africa Tina Joemat-Pettersson. The Belarusian diplomat also met with Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of South Africa Elizabeth Thabethe to discuss the implementation of the agreements reached during the third session of the Belarus-South Africa joint committee on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk.
Andrei Molchan also met with several company chiefs and representatives of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange to discuss suggestions to expand trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the Republic of South Africa.
