"The Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union will be forced to toughen customs procedures for Ukraine and may withdraw from the free trade area with Ukraine if Kyiv signs the agreement on association and free trade with the EU," Russian presidential advisor Sergey Glazyev said in an interview on Wednesday, NRCU reports.
«The question of ending free trade relations with Ukraine may be raised. The Eurasian Economic Commission is studying this issue,» Glazyev said. According to him, the Customs Union will need to tighten customs procedures in order to avoid re-imports of European goods via Ukraine. «We will have to tighten the veterinary and sanitary control when Ukraine switches to EU standards,» he said. «Many projects that we have planned together with our Ukrainian partners, including in the nuclear power engineering, defense, space rocketry, and aircraft-building industries will be revised, reduced, and cut since Ukraine is going to assume too strict obligations in complying with European technical regulations and European defense and foreign policies,» Glazyev said.
