Antimonopoly Committee recommends Ukrspyrt/Ministry of Agrarian Policy not to rise spirit prices

Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee has recommended to Spirit and Alcohol Drinks Industry State-owned Concern Ukrspyrt and Ministry of Agrarian Policy not to grow spirit wholesale prices, reported Antimonopoly Committee press-service.
As to press-service, Committee has, in part., obliged Ukrspyrt to withdraw letters recommending its companies to sell spirit at newly established overrated prices.
As to report, ready products prices establishing is only spirit plants prerogative.
Committee advised Ukrspyrt to restrain from prices regulation attempts as well in future; Ukrspyrt was also recommended not to establish same sale prices for each spirit plant,
not to oblige plants to purchase grain from producers at exchange market prices and not to establish different kinds spirit wholesale minimal prices without proper legislative regulation.
«Monopolist has made proper conclusions, due to having understood which consequences may appear. Thus, Antimonopoly Committee has fulfilled its preventive function. As a result, spirit plants continue normal functioning, while „strategic products“ prices have remained unchanged. However, any further speculations as for Ukrspyrt prices regulation resuming since next year beginning must be stopped,» declared Oleksiy Kostusiev, Antimonopoly Committee Chairman.
As to report, within 10 days Ukrspyrt must report to Committee on these recommendations fulfilling.

It is to be reminded, domestic alcohol drinks producers have threatened to stop hard drinks output due to spirit prices growth.
Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee started to investigate Spirit and Alcohol Drinks Industry State-owned Concern Ukrspyrt activity as for this year Oct 1 spirit wholesale prices boosting economic substantiation.
2004 spirit/hard alcohol drinks output totaled 40.92 million dl, up 14.68 million dl
(+ 56%) as of 2003.
Experts estimate Ukrainian domestic alcohol drinks market annual capacity 3035 million dl (with shadow market share amounting to 3040%, as for various estimations).
