Russia about to okay Georgian wine import

Russia’s chief consumer protection official Gennady Onishchenko is to visit Georgia shortly on a mission which is expected to result in the readmission of Georgian wine and mineral water to the Russian market, Voice of Russia reports referring to Interfax.
In February and early March, a group of his agency’s food safety experts inspected Georgian wineries and mineral water bottlers.
Russia locked out Georgian wine and mineral water in 2006 citing quality concerns.
Russian food safety experts are to resume their inspection of Georgian wineries on February 25th in order to determine which ones can be allowed to restart sales to Russia.
Appearing on Georgian television Friday, Georgia’s chief wine official Levan Davitashvili said Russian wine-drinkers can only be won over by the quality of Georgian wine.
