Russia cracking down on corruption

The Russian government is very serious about eradicating high-level corruption. Upper House Speaker Valentina Matviyenko spoke about this to The Voice of Russia Wednesday after President Vladimir Putin tabled a measure to ban public employees, their spouses and children from holding bank or shareholder accounts abroad, Voice of Russia reports referring to Source: ITAR-TASS.
She said public servants must accept certain restrictions if they want to retain their posts.
Mrs Matviyenko also said she believes her Chamber will overwhelmingly pass the latest Kremlin bill.
Russia is considering ratifying the Council of Europes 1999 anti-bribery convention, Russian parliamentary speaker Valentina Matvienko said Tuesday.
Speaking at a Russian conference on anti-corruption law in Kazan, Ms. Matvienko said the final decision may be made in 2013.
The Council of Europe adopted the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption in 1999 to deter corrupt officials from misusing their powers and allow for compensation for those who suffered at their hands.
