Meat production may increase by 5% in 2012

Production of meat in Ukraine in 2012 could increase by 5.3% compared with 2011 up to 2.26 million tons, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food predicts.
According to the Ministry, in particular, pork production may increase by 7.3% up to 750 thousand tons, poultry meat by 5.8% to 1.06 million tons, while beef production will remain almost at the level of 2010, which is 410 thousand tons. The agriculture ministry also notes that the domestic market in 2012 will increase slightly, to 2.39 million tons, in particular, the demand for beef will remain at the 2011 level of 420 thousand tons, for pork increase by 2.4% to 865 thousand tons, poultry by 3.2% to 1.06 million tons. According to preliminary data from the ministry, the import of meat in 2012 could be reduced by 11.8% compared with 2011 to 217 thousand tons. Including it is expected that imports of beef will remain at the 2011 level of 20 thousand tons, pork will be reduced by 11% to 130 thousand tons, poultry meat by 4.8% to 60 thousand tons. The agriculture ministry also predicts a possible increase in 2012 in the exports of meat by 12.5% up to 90 thousand tons. In particular, exports of pork may increase by 15.4% up to 15 thousand tons, poultry meat by 24% to 62 thousand tons, while beef exports could fall by 28.6% to 10 thousand tons.
