Sugar production grows in Ukraine

Ukrainian sugar refineries produced 1.78 million tons of sugar from new harvest beets as of November 14, 2011, which was 39.5% more than on the same date in 2010, the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers has reported.
According to the association, 62 are currently producing beet sugar, while on the same date last year their number was 46. Sugar plants received 15.47 million tons of beets and processed 13.48 million tons. As reported, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry forecast earlier that Ukraine will produce 2.12.2 million tons of beet sugar in the current season, compared to 1.54 million tons produced last season. The capacity of the Ukrainian sugar market is estimated at 1.82 million tons per year.
