22.09.2011 08:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
World leaders meeting in New York have been urged by the United Nations Secretary-General to act together to meet the needs of the seven billion global citizens.
Ban Ki-moon was speaking to the UN General Assembly on the work of the United Nations before the start of the general debate, the main debating forum.
He said that pressures on land, energy, food and water have increased as the world’s population has tripled since the United Nations was created in 1945.
He added the world has a responsibility towards those people.
«Seven billion now look to us the world’s leaders. They need solutions. They demand leadership. They want us to act. To act with compassion, courage and conviction. To act in concert nations united at the United Nations. Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen: Let us carry on this journey together.»
